  11. wanted to be a professional baseball pitcher. 
  12. A lefthander, he received an offer from the 
  13. Baltimore Orioles to play in the minors. The 
  14. Orioles did not offer him much money, 
  15. however, so he went to work in the grocery 
  16. business. His new company started a 
  17. bowling team, and Earl quickly became
  18. its star.
